Modern Style Portfolio
We're privileged to work
with a wonderful array of people on their garden
and landscape projects.
The owners of this modern home wanted to give thier gardens a face lift without losing the unique style that set
it apart from the other, more traditional homes in their neighborhood. The challenge came in creating a cohesive balance between one owner's love of modern architecture and the other owner's affinity for cottage style gardens. Modern design does not have to be stark or loaded with rows of varying ornamental grasses. Colors and textures which compliment the homes exteriors can be used to convey a Modern aesthetic of symmetry and balance while at the same time provide the abundant blooms and fullness that lends itself to a cottage garden.
Planters can make a huge difference in changing
the way your garden looks and feels. Custom
colored, contemporary cement planters were
installed around the pool area, along steps, at
entances and tucked into beds for added color.
Two were used as an artistic display for a stunning
view from the main floor living room. Planters help anchor the property and add a cohesive design
element through out your garden.
The contrast between the straight modern lines of the house and the massive, curving branches of the existing trees created a complex structural back drop for this garden design. The beds were given architectural elements such as huge round Boxwoods for opposing lines in the garden, acting like living sculptures creating year round interest. Clump Japanese Maples were added along the front drive way wall. These bold, beautiful trees have a stunning deep burgundy color and texture as well as just enough height to slightly obscure the patio wall which surrounds the outdoor dining area. Perennials were chosen for texture, color and bloom time to make this a sleek contemporary moden design.
The same concepts were addressed in the back yard as well.
